Definition: Work is said to be done if a force, acting on a body, displaces the body through a certain distance and the force has some component along with the displacement.

Examples:

  • You may be studying while sitting at your chair for the whole night.
  • A coolie walks a long distance, carrying a heavy suitcase on his head.
  • A night watchman stands at the gate for a whole night.
